Gearhead Records Signs The White Barons November 17, 2006 Gearhead Records is proud to announce signing a deal with The White Barons from San Francisco, CA. Their debut full-length release Up All Night With The White Barons is scheduled to be released February 20th, 2007. Based in San Francisco, CA, The White Barons formed in early 2006.

Featuring the eye-popping psychobilly front woman Eva Von Slut, the band plays a blend of punk and rock n' roll infused with infectious backing "whoa" style vocals reminiscent of The Misfits in their heyday. Fueled by an unholy mixture of booze, drugs, and rock n' roll fury, the band defies being put into any genre, yet instantly suck you in with the melodic hooks, a nose-to-the grindstone guitar/bass onslaught and hardcore-style drums. This is edgy bad-assed rock n' roll played by a gang you wouldn't want to meet in a dark alley.

The White Barons started as a side-project for the band members but quickly gelled into the main focus for all involved. Eva Von Slut, apart from singing for the legendary punk band The Insaints and Thee Merry Widows, also has a burgeoning career as a well-known burlesque dancer, performing on stages all over the world. Brothers Nate and Johnny previously played in The Whiskey Dick Darryls, and drummer Adam pounded skins for the popular hardcore band Time in Malta.

They will be embarking on their first US tour in January 2007 and are scheduled to play the Gearhead Records showcase at South By Southwest in Austin, Texas March 2007.

Gearhead Records established its presence as the leader in the rock n' roll/punk rock genre (punk n' roll) when they had a break-out hit with The Hives from Sweden in 2002, and shortly after, The Hellacopters, New Bomb Turks and The Wildhearts. They continue to find and release edgy exciting bands that exemplify the spirit of rock n' roll.

Other bands on the roster include Gitogito Hustler, Electric Eel Shock and The Spunks from Japan, Turbo A.C.'s from New York, The Lords of Altamont from Los Angeles, CA, and The Black Furies from San Francisco, CA.

Gearhead Records and Gearhead Magazine are now Two Separate Companies! November 17, 2006 A few months back, we sent out an announcement that Gearhead Records (C) and Gearhead Magazine (C) were splitting into two separate companies. There still seems to be some confusion about that, so just to get all you oriented in the right direction, here's a little refresher for you! This was a mutual decision by both of the owners, Michelle and Mike, so each part of the business could be focused on separately. Both companies now have their own separate website and individual product line! If you want any of the music or band merchandise, you can buy it here at the Gearhead Records website! Or you can call us at 530-662-7877 and order over the phone! If you want to buy Gearhead Magazine, get a subscription to the magazine, or buy any Gearhead brand apparel , just go to Gearhead Magazine to shop to your heart's content! This is the same great merchandise on both sites that you've come to know and love, but now only available from the two separate companies! Hopefully this will answer some of the questions we've been getting from people, but if you still have questions, you can email us at info@gearheadrecords.com.

Gearhead Records Signs Deal with Finland's I Walk the Line October 27, 2006 Gearhead Records has just announced it will add I Walk The Line to the Gearhead roster. Their release Desolation Street is scheduled to hit the streets January 23, 2007. Based in Helsinki, Finland, I Walk The Line has been playing their brand of melancholic, organ-driven punk rock since 2003.

I Walk The Line was started as a side-project from some of the members’ other bands, Wasted and Manifesto Juke Box. The band quickly established themselves as a local must-see live act, bringing together fans of punk, hardcore and rock whenever they played.

IWTL released their debut album Badlands on Combat Rock Industry in 2004 and embarked on several tours of Germany and the UK, introducing the band to a wider international audience. Desolation Street was released in Europe in 2006 on Combat Rock Industry and was followed by continuous touring and promoting their signature dark punk sound to a wider audience.

They will be embarking on their first US tour in March 2007 with a stop scheduled for the Gearhead Records showcase at South By Southwest in Austin, Texas.

Gearhead Records established its presence as a leader in the rock n' roll/punk rock genre (known as punk n' roll) when they had a break-out hit with The Hives from Sweden, and shortly after, The Hellacopters and New Bomb Turks. They continued to find and release up and coming bands and in 2003 discovered The Riverboat Gamblers, who later went on to sign with Volcom Records.

Other bands on the roster include Gitogito Hustler and Electric Eel Shock from Japan, Turbo A.C.’s from New York, and The Lords of Altamont from Los Angeles, CA

Gearhead Records to Donate 10% of Website Sales October 20, 2006 As we head into the holidays, it is important to start thinking about those around us who aren't as fortunate as we are. Donating goods, services and money is an important part of being a small business in a small community, and to that end, Gearhead Records is proud to support a really great organization, Food Bank of Yolo County (operating since 1971). Gearhead will donate 10% of all web store sales from now through October 31, 2006 to this non-profit organization. For those of you not familiar with this area, we are located about 15 miles to the west of Sacramento, the capital of California. While our governor pays lip service to supporting programs for low-income families, it's the dedicated service of places like the Food Bank of Yolo County who help families on a daily basis. Yolo County is the 3rd fastest growing county in California due in part to the many farms around here that produce food for the rest of the country. Unfortunately, research shows that 1 out of 7 people in this area do not get enough to eat on a daily basis. For every $1 that the food bank receives, they can turn that into $9 worth of food, or to put it more into perspective, $25 will feed a family of 4 for a week! Ninety-six and a half cents of every dollar donated goes directly to buying food. With a 3 1/2 % overhead this is remarkably low, even in the non-profit sector. We have quite a bit of inventory back in stock finally so there's a lot to chose from again. So please help us help our community and purchase some of our rockin' products these next two weeks to help stave off hunger this fall!.
Gearhead Artists Featured in Major Motion Picture October 18, 2006 For the major motion picture The Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift, Gearhead Records was asked to submit artwork for set design in the film. We gladly obliged and let them use the posters for The Turbo A.C.'S newest release, Avenue X. As a highlight they also used the original painting created for the GitoGito Hustler album, Gito Gito Galore by our very own creative director; Ralph! The End of an Era- Tower Records Closing its Doors October 13, 2006 You all have heard by now about Tower Records filing for bankruptcy and liquidating all the stores via the company that bought them, Great America Liquidators. There's many conflicting emotions running around in my brain right now. First off, this is the end of an era. Tower Records was there when I first started getting into music and buying records in the early 80s. They had everything, from imports, to indies, punk to metal to classical. You could ALWAYS count on finding the obscure record that you had read about at Tower. I used to drive to Portland OR every weekend and spend my entire paycheck on LPs, 12" singles and 7"s of course, CDs didn't exist at that point in time.

After I started Gearhead, I came to rely on Tower Records as one of the only national chain stores that would stock Gearhead releases. Most other chain stores like Virgin, or Best Buy, or Circuit City required labels to "pay to play", that is, pay for shelf space in their stores with required "marketing dollars". This is why you should ALWAYS buy from independent stores if you can. Tower was always run by music fans, and staffed by music fans, and if they liked a record, they made sure it got some exposure. My local Tower, here is Davis CA, has been instrumental in helping make everyone from "Demons" to Gitogito Hustler local favs. Aaron and crew never failed to play my records in the store, put up posters and turn customers onto something new, just because they dug what Gearhead was doing. If it hadn't been for Tower, bands like Mensen and NRA might never have seen shelf space in this ever shrinking "brick and mortar" retail climate.

This is not to say there hasn't been major support from small independently owned stores around the country, but Tower really always acted more like an indie store than a big corporation. They had a national presence, but the heart of an indie, and for that I will always truly be grateful. I am so sad to see the end of this company. Its almost impossible to find deep catalog at any store these days, it just costs too much to keep that sort of inventory on the shelves. But being the eternal optimist that I am, I hope that Tower closing will give independent record stores around the country a much needed boost in customer patronage. Independent stores are the life-blood of small labels like Gearhead, so please go out and support your local record store. Too many stores have closed already. Rock on,
Michelle
